Rootstock 2018 has a secured a major partner for the Bastille weekend celebrations – the iconic UK boutique “glamping” brand, Pop-Up Hotel. For their first French festival, it is a great pleasure to welcome Pop-Up Hotel for the festivities among the vines of Clos Marey-Monge, where a wide selection of superior, safari and classic options of luxury tents and yurts are available to Rootstock revellers and romantics. To celebrate this collaboration, we spoke with Lisa Cunningham, a spokesperson for the brand, and chatted about Pop-Up Hotel’s recent rise to becoming experts in their field with residencies at festivals such as Glastonbury and Bestival, as well as earning a reputation for being one of the coolest must-do festival experiences.
Q. Hi Lisa. What are Pop-Up Hotel’s team most excited about Rootstock 2018? And how does it differ from other festivals?
“We’re thrilled to be working with such a premium brand at a truly unique festival. It’s exciting to be part of leading the way at festivals in France in the same way our sister company – The Pop-Up Hotel Italy – has done in Italy. The weather, amazing location and the opportunity to partner with a team who are as passionate as we are about welcoming guests is very, very exciting for us.”
Q. What are the biggest challenges involved in setting up your awesome tents on a festival site?
“Previous events for the Pop-Up Hotel UK have all been in the UK so it’s no surprise that our answer here is the great British weather! We’ve set Glastonbury up in torrential rain (2016) and a heatwave (2017) but, at the end of the day, it always comes together and seeing the delight on the faces of our guests makes all of it worthwhile. We’re super lucky that we’ve got a very strong team who will pull together to deliver whatever the challenges. For Rootstock 2018, we’re really looking forward to setting up a festival in, pretty much, guaranteed sunshine!”

Q. What has been the highlight of The Pop-Up Hotel’s journey so far … and why?
“We’ve had so many so it’s difficult to choose but probably the rate of growth from a business perspective – going from 11 structures for Glastonbury 2011 to 1,500 guests at Glastonbury 2017 is quite something. That along with the number of repeat guests we have at various festivals who we build relationships and catch-up with year on year – that’s just lovely!”
Q. What’s the best thing about staying at Pop-Up Hotel at festivals? And what services do you offer that really standout?
“Certainly, in the UK people associate festivals with mud and discomfort and we love to show them the alternative – a boutique hotel in the heart of the festival – ensuring they get really memorable experiences and return year after year. To date the Glastonbury festival has been the jewel in our crown where our site has our full range of rooms (including our Tent House Suites for up to 10 guests with living / dining room and en-suite bathroom), a premier restaurant and bar, spa facilities and even a swimming pool!”

Q. What other festivals and events does Pop-Up Hotel have lined up this year? Anything really special?
“Every year we add to our festival calendar so, in addition to our regular line up which includes Cornbury, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Smoked and Uncut etc, we are also popping up at Love Supreme, Sundown and a new festival called the Long Road. In addition, we’re providing a beautiful outdoor spa for Bamford Spa. Of course, we don’t just do corporate events and festivals – we’ve also done some A+ celebrity events… but I can’t tell you anything about those I’m afraid, they’re a secret…”
